SIDI BOU SAID |
Sidi Bou-Saïd
is a Tunisian village situated 20 km in the northeast
of Tunis, it's perched on the Carthage cape, on the
flank of a cliff of more than 100 m high, the Manâr
djebel. Famous since the beginning of the XX century,
Sidi Bou-Saïd; of the name of the holy chief
of the village; becomes an international appointment
place for the artists. |

In 1915, the English
baron of Erlanger, a famous orientalist painter, gets
the protection of the site and undertakes the restoration
of the palaces, the revalorisation of the traditional
Tunisian architecture and the renewal of some shapes
of handicraft. The village became a real picture of
the traditional Tunisia, with its houses, the white
walls and blue shutters and its paved alleys. |
