Douz is a small city, of 17 000 inhabitants, on the east bank of Salt pan Jérid. It is the country of the Bedouin, the Meharis and Sloughis (a short hair desert greyhound). Its main resource is the cultivation of the date palm. Its oases are splendid and its souk is very beautiful.

Douz is widely-known for its yearly festival that is unique in tunisie, he includes the runs of sloughis, Arabian horses and dromedaries that are the main means of transportation of men and goods in the desert.
